PAST SCHOLARS

Scholars with college membership* :

Summer 2007 : Ms Tsering Yankey Ms. Yangkey works for the Department of Culture and Religion of the Tibetan Government in Exile and is no stranger to ELST having attended the ELST Workshop 2001. Ms. Yangkey held the position of visiting scholar at Darwin College, Cambridge. Best wishes now to Ms Yankey in her Fulbright scholarship.

Spring 2006 : Ms Chokey Dolma Held the position of visiting research scholar at Girton College whilst completing the ELST scholarship 2006.

Spring 2005 : Dr. Tsering Drungtso. Held the position of visiting scholar at Darwin College whilst completing the ELST scholarship 2005.

Autumn 2003 : Geshe Dorji Damdul. While in Cambridge, Dorji both completed his English language programme and held the position of Visiting Fellow Commoner at Girton College. He is now in Dharamsala where he is teaching at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics and doing translation work for His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Scholars without college membership* :

Spring 2003 : Kalsang Dorji. Kalsang has returned to his post in the Secretariat to the Kashag in Dharamsala.

Autumn 2002 : Namkang Tsering. Namkang has returned to his work as a teacher and careers counsellor at Tibetan homes Foundation, Mussoorie.

Spring 2002 : Lobsang Tsering from the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy. Lobsang went on from Cambridge with a Fulbright Scholarship to study International Relations at Brandeis College, Boston, USA. In 2004 he plans to return to Tibetan settlements in South India to work on environmental programmes.

Autumn 2000 : Dr Tenzin Namdul, working on research projects at Men Tsee Khang, the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute.

Spring 2000 : Dhola Menlha, an economics teacher from Tibetan Children's Village.

Spring 1999 : Ven Gedun Tharchin, from Ganden Monastery, undertaking wider ecumenical studies in Rome.

Autumn 1999 : Sonam Sangpo from TIPA, the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.

Spring 1997 : Dr Tenzin Kyizom, a doctor of Tibetan traditional medicine from Men Tsee Khang.


*Originally ELST scholars were not members of Cambridge colleges. From 2003 onwards, links with Cambridge colleges have been formed so that scholars are now hosted by colleges.
