For several years, ELST has taught English language and business skills in the Tibetan community in exile. ELST has organised workshops in India, has brought Tibetan scholars to Cambridge and has supported individuals and small groups of volunteers from Cambridge.
In 2004, ELST started a new initative to support Cambridge University individuals to undertake projects of benefit to Tibetans in the Himalayan region. The scheme was a success and so ELST has decided to continue the scheme.
As part of the support package, ELST provide a travel grant and advice and aid in applying for grants from other sources in Cambridge. ELST help develop the project with the Tibetan host institution or settlement. ELST also offer help with brushing up TEFL and business and management skills and provide advice on travel and cultural issues.
ELST are planning to build on the success of this year's summer project scheme with a similar scheme for summer 2006, if you are interested in participating or helping in any way with the projects please contact ELST (elstcam@ntlworld.com).
