pictures feedback articles

From November 2000, a team of six Cambridge postgraduates was selected by the ELST committee to design and implement the first multi-disciplinary residential summer school in Dharamsala. The individuals comprising the pioneer team come from a diverse set of cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds.

The team aimed at addressing, first of all, the English language needs of the prospective students. The ultimate aim was to reinforce confidence and competence in handling the international English world of NGOs, academia, and multinationals.

The main themes of the Workshop were:

  • English Language and Literature
  • Cultures and the Global Village
  • Presentation and Communication Skills
  • Finance and Development
  • Information Technology and Science

The Cambridge team and twenty six young professional Tibetan participants lived and worked together at the College of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah, Dharamsala, for three weeks from 19 August to 8 September 2001. Lectures, classes and seminars made use of proactive teaching methods, audio visual aids, debate, presentations and role-play.
